Happy New Year!

Minor setback on New Year's Eve, but otherwise feeling better. We went out for dinner to Szechuan Garden and I thought I was well again. Felt good and then my brother, Danny, arrived from Chicago with a Mr. V's pizza around 10 p.m. I guess it all was too much for me and before midnight, I was sicker than a dog. Took me about 1 1/2 days to recover, but now I'm feeling mended. I can't believe that I still don't have any energy. The doc reminded me of that - "remember, I said 8-10 weeks of feeling like a truck hit you, no energy, etc...doesn't matter how young you are, this is MAJOR surgery." I always think I can beat the odds! So silly. So humbling.
I hope all of you are still praying. I continue to pray for a million different things - for all of you, mostly. I'm so emotional these days and cry often when I think of what a great group of friends/family I have. You have done so many things for me that go so far beyond what I ever would have dreamed I'd ask you to do. Everyday you're nourishing us with the food you've brought and the inspiration you've left.
The boys are back to their routine again. It's so good to have them home. The "reds" are back in school and Tommy gets up for a workout around 7 a.m. and then practice from 11-1 and then heads to Tom's office to work. I'm so glad he has a car - don't know what I would do if I had to continue to drive him everywhere. The boys continue to be helpful and often, they just come and lay down with me and spend time talking and sharing their day with me. What precious time we've shared - would have never gotten this time were I still working full-time and trying to get them everywhere they need to go.
Cody got the lead in Music Man so they're busy rehearsing at school at least 4 days per week. He's trying to learn the music and isn't as familiar with this musical so it's a challenge. Dave is redecorating his room again - added a Grateful Dead hanging over the window instead of the bright blue valance I had put there (go figure!). Tommy is enjoying basketball season, especially when they win!!
I must be getting a little better. I started thinking about work again - wondering how we ended the year with our annual campaign. You know, always fundraising, even when home in bed in and out of consciousness. Can't wait to hit the trails when it warms up a little. I'll be the slow one, hunched over a bit but continuing to put one foot in front of the other, looking forward to each new sunrise.
Make it a happy new year -- you have for me!
Love you all,
Lenette

Hey Lenette -

It has to be frustrating to feel a bit better then do a bit too much. Just take it slowly. I am amazed at how well you are doing already. I'm very proud of your spirit and your fight. That is wonderful your boys still come and lie with you and share their day. You are a wonderful mom and the love they have for you shows no boundries!!

Well, Dave and the Grateful Dead and Brandon and the Beatles and Led Zeppelin! ha ha He is buying vinyl off of E-Bay and framing them in his room, too funny! I never thought my kid would be stealing my records when I used to worry about my sisters doing it twenty years ago.

So cool for Cody getting that lead in Music Man! That's wonderful. We have an actor in our midst.

You keep up the fight Lenette. I will never stop praying for you and your family. Your courage is amazing.

Lenette,
Well you are half way through your "mac truck" phase!!! Only four weeks to go!! Waht progress you have made!!

Well Monday we had a total of 18 kids through out the day, yesterday 28. I'm guessing about 40 today. About half of the kids are here the full day, the older ones come in and shoot hoops for an hour or two and move on. One poor kid was dropped off at around 10 by his uncle (we open for kids at 10:30, but what do you do???) He apparently was at his uncles home that previous night, so when he got to the Club, he called his Mom, told her he was at the Club, but wanted to come home. She told him she wasn't going to come and get him until she was ready... she showed up about 5:15 (45 minutes after we were closed. Poor guy.

I think I'm on the list for Mondays meal, so let me know if anything in particular sounds good...just remeber that I don't do meat!! Hoping you have a good day,

Jackie

Hi Lenette:

Why is it we all have such trouble listening to our doctor? Sorry you felt so bad, but glad you had fun! Just take it easy, girl. I know it's hard for someone as young and spry as yourself....but the doc is right on this one!

Ah, yes.......fundraising. It does tend to consume our waking (and sleeping) hours, doesn't it?

When you get ready to hit the trail, call me. I'd be most honored to be a walking partner with you on your first venture out.

Take care and keep healing, my friend.

Jama

P.S. How's the painting coming along?

Praise the Lord Praise the Lord Praise the Lord!!!

Lenette, it was so wonderful to get your Christmas card in the mail of your beautiful family (MAJOR surgery and you STILL beat most of us to the post office) and I've so enjoyed reading your comments on this blog. Can't wait to see you again with my own eyes. Until then I continue to pray for you and your family. We've added you and the boys to the prayer chain at YUMC and I've even emailed Joel Osteen. If you haven't gotten his latest book yet, I know what I'll be bringing you when I see you! You have prayer warriors all over the country praying for you. Jesus loves you, Lenette and so do we!

Keep hanging in there and lay off the ab crunches for a few more weeks. Don't worry -- you'll get that six-pack back in no time!
